Artist Statement

I paint and create art because she compels me to.  Everything I think and do is metaphoric and artistic.  Everything I hear and see is  inspiration.  The process of creation comes natural.  No one had to push me to do what I do, I have been creating art since I could hold the proper tools.
I paint to express my full throttle of explosive love and frustrations for life and it’s bitter sweet tastes it leaves in my mouth.  My products are my devotion and intense passions for  humanity.  All of mankind and womankind shows threw me.  Like a journalist writes; I illustrate my journey.
I create fractured reflections of my love and lust for the woman.  I also paint and create as a strong response to the incredibly infinite world problems and unfair unfavored unequal living conditions of our classes.  I silently shout about the need to correct evil deeds, disobedience, slanderers, this sexual carnival, hypocrisies, educated lies, murders, greed, corruption, starvation, genocide, endless war, all world oppressions, and the endless actions of shameless immorality. I create through the thanks and praise of JAH Rastafari and the need for equal equality.  I am the Rebel-lion! I will cover and paint the earth.  To expose all people and our children to  the beautiful, the ugly,  and share my love and criticisms of life.
Art is freedom, it is freedumb,  and this is my gift of that freedom.  I believe successful art is any conceptual piece from which any two or more people can get two or more definitions, reactions, or ideas.  Good art causes conversations. Great art created intense debates. I paint for my passions, pains, praise, and fears.  Subjectively objective.
I paint live and hang shows for the attention and the pleasure I get from the viewers conversations and comments.  Art is nothing. Art is everything.  I illustrate the fantastic nightmares.  I am beautiful resistance.  My art is the madness and bliss of my mind’s eye.  Art is colorful, boundless truth.  It is the way I see my experiences and emotions.  The great mirror of life; an artist’s spiritual center.
Art is my unique personal abstract definitions of my discoveries.  I create sporadically, yet occasionally very focused and intricate; with both sides of the brain.   Each piece reflects that day or week’s mood.  I paint in oil layers and mixed mediums.  I am very attracted to the complexities of the human body, the world’s finest sculptures; and mirrors.  I am a reflection of our beautifully horrible world.  So I abstract reality without loss of the realistic ness.  I trod to hopefully someday join the great immortal gallery of master artists.

1ove, one heart, 1 world, Deric Hettinger

Biography

Deric Samuel Hettinger, Born in Reading Pennsylvania, May 25, 1980.  He was born into a very craft oriented and artistic family.  His father, is a retired graphic designer. His mother hand crochets beautifully colored scarves and blankets.  His Great-Grandfather George Falk was a self taught artist prodigy, who made his own paints.
Deric has a BFA from Pennsylvania College of Art & Design.  He majored in Fine Art and Illusrtation. He maintained Dean’s list all four years.  Professor Eric Fowler stated,” Deric is possibly the best student to come through our doors.”
Deric Hettinger has co-created an Avante guard gallery, Oxygen for the Arts, which brings a refreshing International/New York feel to Berks County, Pennsylvania.
He has sold over 600 original works and maintains an incredibly rapid production rate.
Deric is currently the “Artist in Residence” for Advancing Arts which is an organization founded to support Deric Hettinger.  He earns his living as a self employed Muralist, Faux Finisher, and oil painting Fine Artist.
Hettinger thrives as a performance artist.  Painting Live at Art events, Fundraisers, Bistros, Beer festivals, and Reggae/music events; in Pennsylvania, and New York. The clamor of music and curious crowds increases Deric’s creative adrenaline.  He draws the energy of the people through his fingertips and feverishly layers in the primary colors of emotion.  Deric’s friendly, gregarious yet assertive nature is an asset to his art and a goldmine to the discerning gallery owner.
In 2006 he hung in his first two of three New York city art shows. That year he also innovated his mirror painting technique.
Also in 2006 Deric’s controversial “Legacy Brewing company’s Hedonism Ale” packaging artwork was censored at some east coast beer marts (by being wrapped in brown paper to cover the taboo art images) and received national press; Associated press, USA Today, CNN, NPR, NY Post, Philadelphia Enquirer ….etc.
In 2007 he started his very own company; Hettinger murals, faux finish, painting and fine art. And in 2008 he started his own Hettinger collection, clothing line with the Rastafarian company,Rastaempire.com.
He loves easily, and studies the roots and ideologies of Rastafari.  Many new to Deric’s scene, art patrons, are shocked to discover that he is in deed a white man. He practices one love, and has a fond outspoken heart for true human equality, justice and peace. Deric has a lion’s heart.  He is respected for who he is as a person, as much as he is respected for what he does as an artist.

Janice Fetrow-Stewart, 2008
